To strengthen the connection between Grom Social and the World Surf League, I conceptualized and designed an in-app game experience that would live within the Grom ecosystem. The idea blended elements of fantasy sports with a battle-style mechanic inspired by Pokémon, allowing kids to build teams of WSL surfers and compete based on real-time event data pulled through a live API. I led the UI/UX design and built the pitch deck to present the concept, including gameplay flow and monetization ideas. To maintain Grom’s brand integrity and kid-safe guidelines, I handpicked an artist and art directed the creation of stylized surfer avatars—modifying their appearances to remove facial hair, tattoos, and piercings to align with Grom’s youthful visual style.

The client provided a rough AI-generated concept for the logo, which I refined into a polished mark—cleaning up the design, selecting typography, and fine-tuning the layout to achieve the right look and feel.

Character Design
I handpicked an artist whose style aligned with Grom Social’s playful and youthful aesthetic, and directed the creation of custom character designs for each featured WSL surfer. The goal was to reimagine them in a Grom-friendly style—removing facial hair, tattoos, and piercings while keeping their personalities recognizable. I also guided the development of their facial rigs, specifically designing mouth shapes and expressions to support lip-sync functionality. This allowed the characters to speak in-game, using pre-recorded voice lines from the real surfers to create a more dynamic and engaging experience for young users.
Pitch Deck
I packaged the entire concept into a polished, investor-ready presentation that included the app design, character artwork, gameplay mechanics, and branding elements. The goal was to clearly communicate the value of the partnership, showcasing how the game could engage a younger audience while aligning with both Grom Social’s mission and the WSL’s global reach. Drawing on our previous collaboration with the WSL, I tailored the pitch deck to speak their language—emphasizing youth engagement, digital interactivity, and brand synergy—giving Grom’s CEO the tools needed to confidently present the concept and spark further partnership discussions.
I created and presented a prototype to partner Grom Social with the World Surf League, featuring branded characters, game concepts, and UI tailored for young surf fans.
I helped QIP modernize their online presence with a responsive website, SEO updates, improved Google Business visibility, and targeted marketing support.
